Intel’s breakthrough in chassis design could result in cheaper ultrabooks
Intel may have originally planned for ultrabooks to cost around $1,000. While this might be a justifiable price for some to pay for the mobility and speed of ultrabooks, the $1,000 price tag is still out of the reach for some. Well the good news is that Intel has announced that they have managed to arrive at a breakthrough with regards to chassis design that could result in cheaper ultrabooks in the near future. Inspired by the automotive and aerospace industries, by using existing plastics and by rearranging the internals of the ultrabook, Intel has reportedly (via Reuters) managed to reduce the cost of ultrabooks between $25 to $75. This will allow manufacturers to create ultrabooks with plastics that are supposedly as strong as their aluminum versions. Intel expects that these cheaper ultrabooks that utilize the new chassis design will be available next year, so there’s plenty of time for you to start saving! [Press release]
