Google will reportedly launch a new cloud service at Google I/O next week
It appears that Google Drive might not be the only cloud-based service that Google will launch this year. GigaOM, citing from its sources, says that the Mountain View, California-based company could most likely launch a new cloud service at the much anticipated Google I/O next week in San Francisco. “We have since confirmed with multiple sources who are familiar with Google’s plans which include a more comprehensive offering that its current app engine and storage offerings. The Mountain View, Calif-based Internet giant declined to comment,” the publication wrote today.
Such rumor was first heard in May this year, when GigaOM tipped that Google is working hard on a cloud service that will reportedly compete directly with Amazon’s EC2 cloud. Microsoft is allegedly prepping up a cloud service of its own and that it will be launched before Google’s. Sources have previously said that Google will be rolling out the said service “by the end of the year”. Google, on the other hand, did not comment on the report. So, while we wait for Google I/O next week, let’s keep our fingers crossed.
