Apple to use 19-pin dock connector for 2012 iPhone?

Apple logoThere are whispers going around that hail from multiple manufacturers that Apple intends to reduce the number of pins on their 30-pin dock connector to just a 19-pin port in the next generation iPhone which will most probably be released later this year. While there were such rumors surrounding a “mini dock” connector for Apple’s new iPhone for some time already, TechCrunch’s latest word was oozing in confidence, touting that they had already “independently verified” and “confirmed” the Cupertino is working on a smaller 19-pin port which will see action soon.

The report also mentioned that a trio of independent manufacturers claimed that Apple was working on the connector, while accessory makers were kept in the dark until Apple at least announces the new standard to them. It is rumored that the new port will be rather close in size to the Thunderbolt port that can be found on Apple’s most recent Mac range, but will not have the same “pin-out”, of course.
