Verizon secretly releases Samsung Gusto 2 into the wild

Verizon announced last month that it will be announcing the Samsung Gusto 2 –  a basic low-level phone that will be sold for $79.99 with a $50 mail-in rebate and a 2-year contract. Well, Verizon did what it had promised. Just today, without any catchy adverts or infomercials, Verizon launched the device for those who are looking for a basic phone to support their basic texting and calling needs.

The Samsung Gusto 2 features a 1.3 megapixel camera, a 2-inch 128 x 160 pixel internal display, a 1-inch 96 x 96 pixel external display, Bluetooth 2.1, and a 1000 mAh battery that is expected to power 7 hours of talk time or approximately 14 days of standby time on a single charge.

The small handset also features a “Fake Call” functionality, which allows users to set-up a pseudo-call to escape unwanted situations while socializing. Verizon has also integrated its apps into the device – VZNavigator, Verizon Tones, and Mobile Email. For $79, it’s still not that cheap. The device looks pretty old as well, but I’d say the battery life is quite impressive.
