Sony, Panasonic work on OEL TV partnership
Sony has not been doing too well on the corporate front, especially during the recent earnings season, and Panasonic isn’t the hottest stock on the block either. Having said that, the adage “Birds of a feather flock together” rings true this time around, as Sony and Panasonic have come together to work on the possibility of churning out large OEL (organic electroluminescence) televisions, at least according to the Nikkei business daily. This partnership would signal a shift in times, where necessity of survival precedes traditional rivalries, as the two great nemesis will come together in a core business. How times have changed – one thing though, it is not likely we will see a Coke and Pepsi merger anytime soon this lifetime, or McDonald’s gobbling up Burger King. Both companies intend to commercialize OEL TVs by the time 2015 arrives, and the partnership is hoped to bring a level of synergy that will shorten development time by sharing technologies.
