Unfortunately it appears this service will be limited to Olympic athletes and select users who will be given special Olympic editions of the phone with Visa’s payWave app preinstalled on it. However the service is expected to roll out on a larger scale post-Olympic games.
However if in theory this service were to be made available to the masses from the get-go, this would allow visitors to the games pay for their food and drink, merchandise and other purchases via the phone’s NFC technology and its accompanying app. Given that there is expected to be a pretty huge crowd at the games, payments made via NFC could certain help cut down waiting in line and make things a lot more efficient.
