NHK camera does 4 billion pixels each second
So, OmniVision did roll out a new 16-megapixel image sensor with 4k video capture capability that should see use in smartphones and other mobile devices down the road, while we also know that NHK Hybridcast delivers an interactive experience for broadcast TV, so what does NHK have up their sleeves today? It seems that the Japanese firm has come up with a camera that relegates Full HD to the history bin, where their new camera is capable of capturing and ‘digesting’ a cool 4 billion pixels per second, which translates to capturing 33-megapixel footage at 120 frames per second. Now that is clearly impressive, and when you take the iPhone 4S camera into consideration, it shoots 8-megapixel shots with cinema reels that run at 24 frames per second.
This particular camera was constructed to showcase NHK’s latest ‘Super Hi Vision’ format, and we do hope to see such cameras being used to shoot video for movies down the road that will feature eye-popping visuals, delivering that added depth of reality in the process. I would like to think that we are less about gimmick (3D movies are one example) and more about quality, where higher resolutions are preferred to a 3D flick. What do you think?
