Microsoft to make Windows 8 upgrade offer soon?

In the past, Microsoft has offered customers the chance to upgrade their OS to the newest version and it looks like those upgrades for Windows 7 customers to move over to Windows 8 could be coming soon, according to CNET’s sources who also provided the screenshot above. For those unfamiliar, these upgrades will essentially allow customers who might have recently bought new PCs the chance to upgrade to the next version of Windows for free.

So what sort of upgrade offer will Microsoft be offering current Windows 7 customers? Well if you’re running on a computer with Windows 7 Home Basic or higher, it seems that Microsoft will be offering you a chance the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro once the operating system has been rolled out. Since the Windows 8 Pro SKU has been designed for the more pro/demanding/business user in mind and comes with a variety of features i.e. encryption, virtualization, etc, the upgrade will not be a free one. Instead users will probably have to pay a small fee to make the upgrade.

No word on how much users might have to pay, but it seems that this offer is expected to roll out come 2nd of June 2012 and will be available until January 2013. Is this upgrade offer for real? We guess we have a little less than a month before the details have been revealed, assuming those dates are to be believed.
