Amazon’s Instant Video arrives on the Xbox 360

Earlier last month, Amazon’s Instant Video arrived on Sony’s PlayStation 3 platform, and given the PS3’s fierce rivalry with Microsoft’s Xbox 360, we had to wonder if the Xbox might go for a rival service or come up with something on their own. As it turns out the good news for Xbox owners is that it looks like Amazon’s Instant Video has arrived for your platform as well. Announced on Tuesday, Amazon revealed that its Prime Instant Video service along with access to “Your Video Library” will now be available for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. According to Ross Honey, general manager of Xbox LIVE Entertainment and Advertising:

“Working with Amazon.com marks a significant milestone in our mission to make the entertainment you love more amazing on Xbox […] By bringing the Amazon Instant Video app to Xbox LIVE and adding voice search and voice control through the magic of Kinect, we’re transforming the way people discover and experience entertainment.”

For those unfamiliar, the Instant Video is part of Amazon’s Prime subscription. It will cost $79 a year and provides customers with free two-day shipping along with other features that includes a library of 17,000 movies and TV episodes, as well as hundreds of Paramount films. The Amazon Instant Video app for the Xbox also comes with Amazon’s Whispersync technology, which allows users to stream videos on their Kindle Fire and continue watching it on their Xbox 360 console.
