RIM confirms plans for LTE BlackBerry Playbook

A couple of days ago, we were in two minds as to whether there will be a 4G LTE BlackBerry Playbook released to the masses in the future, and promised to bring you the latest updates should there be any breaking news. Well, here we are today, and we have word from the horse’s mouth – RIM’s new chief executive to be exact, that the company has plans to roll out an LTE version of the BlackBerry PlayBook – although he stopped short of revealing an actual release date as well as possible pricing structure.

Again, the previous purported hardware specifications will hold, with a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor running underneath the hood in addition to an NFC chip which would certainly come in handy to perform wireless monetary transactions. This would mean Nokia, and possibly Samsung, might just have a new worthy rival if RIM makes the most out of hte situation. Would you hold out for a BlackBerry Playbook that has 4G LTE connectivity, or do you think you would rather spend your money on the iPad?

Something tells me that RIM needs to put in more effort into the app side of things, otherwise all the fancy hardware in the world is not going to do anything for you if there ain’t any decent software to keep it company.
