Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro and Windows RT announced

Microsoft has just announced that they will be offering different editions of Windows 8 when the operating system hits the market, and this is where you come up with the “You don’t say?” look. Don’t you just love it that back in the older days, there was only one or two versions of an operating system to choose from – but right now, with so many choices, the average consumer might end up confused as well. At least Microsoft has decided that Windows 8 will be the official product name for the next x86/64 editions of Windows, and PCs as well as tablets running on 32-bit and 64-bit x86 processors will come in Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro flavors, where the former offers an updated Windows Explorer, Task Manager, better multi-monitor support and the ability to switch languages on the fly.

Those living in China will receive a local language-only edition of Windows 8, now how about that for a greater degree of customization? As for Windows 8 Pro, it was specially constructed to assist tech enthusiasts and business/technical professionals to obtain a broader set of Windows 8 technologies, where it will include the full complement of features in Windows 8 in addition to encryption, virtualization, PC management and domain connectivity.

If you want to get entertained, then Windows Media Center will be made available as an economical “media pack” add-on to Windows 8 Pro. To put it in a nutshell, Windows 8 Pro caters for enthusiasts and those who use PCs in a business environment.

Last but not least, Windows RT is also known as Windows on ARM or WOA. This single edition will come pre-installed on PCs and tablets which have an ARM processor running underneath the hood, with the main purpose of delivering a decent Windows 8 experience while conserving battery life.
