Google has come to a deal with Paramount Pictures which has agreed to license about 500 of its movies for YouTube and the Google Play Store. The movies will be up for rental in U.S and Canada as Google announced. Although the rental service will commence immediately, more titles will be added to the collection over the next few months. With this latest addition, Google is looking at about 9,000 films already in its arsenal of movies.
Paramount’s decision to come to an agreement with Google might get some people a flummoxed seeing as Google’s subsidiary, YouTube remains locked in a $1 billion copyright infringement lawsuit with Paramount’s parent company, Viacom. The lawsuit basically is against YouTube knowingly allowing copyrighted shows to be aired on its website. It is perhaps due to that incident which saw Google getting agreements from companies like Disney, Sony, Universal, and Warner Bros along with more than 10 independent film companies before Paramount finally gave in
