Mozilla’s Boot to Gecko platform will see a 2013 commercial release
Earlier this year, LG and Mozilla were rumored to show off a Boot to Gecko device at MWC and now it looks like the first commercially available Boot to Gecko devices will be arriving in 2013. If you loved Chrome OS and if completely open sourced operating systems are your thing, and you love the freedom and ability to customize to your hearts content, Boot to Gecko is probably an operating system you are looking forward to ever since Mozilla announced it back in 2011.
According to the folks over at ZTop, the first Boot to Gecko devices are expected to arrive in 2013. This was apparently announced Mozilla’s CEO Gary Kovacs himself at an announcement in São Paulo. Unfortunately no word on who will be making the device but we guess we should find out as we get closer to the date. However given the particularly fierce competition between iOS and Android (with Windows Phone looking to enter the fray), do we really need another operating system for our mobile devices?
