Yes, I know that a creative person with Lego can conjure up wonders, but if you were to take a more holistic approach to the situation, then there is far more which can be done with some Lego bricks. Researchers over at Cambridge University’s Department of Engineering have come up with a new way of churning out synthetic bone, by enlisting the help of Lego – a traditional construction kit for kids (as well as starry eyed adults who still have that sense of fantasy in them). Why bone, you ask? For starters, bone’s excellent mechanical properties, even in the synthetic format, will come in handy as a medical implants in addition to being used in the realm of construction.
I guess people would definitely have some qualms about entering a place made out of bones, as it would be rather morbid. Synthetic bones? I guess that is not too much to ask, and if it does not resemble a human skeleton or anything of that sort, then the whole idea of synthetic bone as a site’s building blocks is not too far fetched, and to have Lego play a role in the manufacturing of synthetic bone is something to ponder over.
