Intel ships second generation Thunderbolt controllers
It is true – Intel has begun to ship their anticipated second generation Thunderbolt controllers, which were previously known as Cactus Ridge if codenames are your cup of tea. The timing seems to be impeccable, as there were also rumors making their rounds concerning a new generation of Ivy Bridge-powered MacBook Pros being prepared to be unleashed upon the masses when the end of May rolls around. You can bet your bottom dollar that the expectant crowd hopes to see Thunderbolt support on at least the new iMac and perhaps even the new Mac Pro systems.
While all the desktops and notebooks seem to be on par to receiving some second generation Thunderbolt controller action, don’t hold your breath when it comes to an iPhone or iPad with Thunderbolt connectivity in the near future, unless the engineers over at Intel are able to do something about the relatively high power usage.
