First Intel Medfield smartphone, the XOLO X900, launches in India

Remember earlier this year at MWC we covered an upcoming Intel Medfield powered smartphone dubbed the XOLO X900? According to Intel’s CEO, Paul Otellini, an Intel Medfield powered Android smartphone would be launching as soon as this week, and true to his word that is exactly what has happened. Yup, it looks like the XOLO X900 has hit the market as the world’s first Intel Medfield powered handset but unfortunately it appears that its intended market is limited to India for now.

For those who might have missed our coverage during MWC, the XOLO X900 features an Intel Atom Z2460 SoC with a single-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, a PowerVPR SGX540 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 4.03” 1024×600 display, an 8MP rear-facing camera capable of 1080p Full HD video recording, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, HSPA+ connectivity, NFC and will launch with Android 2.3 Gingerbread although an Android 4.0 ICS update is supposedly in the works.

No word if and when it will be making its way stateside, but it is expected to cost ₹22,000 (~$423). UK and France are expected to get their own Intel Medfield smartphone in the form of the Orange Santa Clara which is expected to see a summer release.
