Apple ‘unibody’ earbuds plan relies on ultrasonic bonding
Apple’s sense of design had always been impeccable and well ahead of their time, and this time around, we have a whiff that Apple is working on a new process called ultrasonic bonding, which might eventually result in Cupertino working on new iPhone and iPod earbuds which are unibody in nature, just like their iPhone 4S’ design. At this point in time, headsets and earbuds come in a range of components, including cables, a jack, a microphone, and the headphones itself, and they need to be pieced together, resulting in what Apple deems as “abrupt and aesthetically displeasing.”
The potential sales figures of a pair of unibody earbuds might prove surprising, but until it is actually introduced to the rest of the world, we can do little else apart from sit back and wonder just when will Apple introduce such a pair to the world. They have already filed for a new patent application entitled “Ultrasonically Welded Structures and Methods for Making the Same,” and it remains to be seen if Apple will continue to pursue such an idea.
