Will the Nokia Lumia 900 be eligible for Windows Phone 8?

The next build of Windows Phone, Apollo (also known as Windows Phone 8) is expected to introduce Windows Phone users to handsets with dual-core processors, and if the reports are to be believed, current Windows Phone owners will not be able to update their devices to the Windows Phone 8 due to hardware incompatibility, so where does that put Nokia’s latest flagship handset, the Lumia 900? In a statement given to IntoMobile:

“We don’t know yet,” Chris Searight, Nokia marketing launch manager, said. He also added that the company is really anxious to “know what comes next.”

We know that both Microsoft and Nokia have a pretty unique relationship whereby the Redmond company has allowed the Finnish company to get away with certain things when it comes to their Windows Phone handsets, so it seemed a little odd for Nokia’s marketing launch manager to say that, especially since a while back alleged details for Windows Phone 8 was leaked in a Microsoft video to Nokia.

In any case it would certainly be a bummer for AT&T, Microsoft, and Nokia to spend so much time, effort and money promoting the device only to have it not be able to be upgraded to Windows Phone 8, not forgetting the amount of outrage it could generate amongst their customers. We will be keeping our eyes on this, but in the mean time, we are certainly hoping for the best.
