Western Digital has decided to offer an upgrade to the My Passport portable hard drive range, bumping them up to 2TB of storage space. Coming in five popular colors, namely white, black, silver, blue, and red, you need not settle for 2TB as there is always a more economically viable option of just 500GB if you prefer an entry level device. The new My Passport portable drives will be sleeker in terms of design, accompanied by WD SmartWare automatic backup software as well as WD Security for password protection and hardware encryption.
The exterior has been specially-engineered to be more resistant to scratches (bear in mind that this does not mean scratch-free), not to mention shrugging off fingerprints, but as we all know, good looks alone will not win points – hence it is nice to see Western Digital throw in USB 3.0 connectivity, leaving USB 2.0 compatibility for legacy systems, and offering security in the form of password protection with hardware encryption. You will be able to choose from 500GB, 750GB, 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB models for $129.99, $149.99, $179.99, $199.99 and $249.99, respectively. [Press Release]
