Pentax K-5 Silver Special Edition with 40mm f2.8 pancake lens announced

If limited edition cameras are your thing, or if you were in the market for a new DSLR anyway, you might be interested in learning that Pentax has plans to release a Silver Special Edition version of their Pentax K-5 DSLR. This might sound familiar to some as back in February of 2011, the company released a similar DSLR, but not only did it cost $100 more, it did not come with the lens either, making this version appear to be slightly more value for money.

As far as the hardware is concerned, it remains exactly the same as its plain old black counterpart, albeit $400 more expensive. This means that users can expect to find a 16.3MP image sensor, an 11-point AF system, and can shoot at ISOs up to 51,200. The difference between the limited edition and regular edition, besides the paint job, is that the limited edition will come with a 40mm f2.8 pancake lens that will match the color of the camera’s body.

The Pentax K-5 Silver Special Edition is expected to be made available in April for $1,599.95 and will be available via Pentax’s online store or Ace Photo. It should also be noted that only 1,500 units will be made, so if this sounds like the camera for you, you should probably get your credit card ready for when it launches!
