It looks like the rumors had it the other way around – Apple announced the new Apple TV before the new iPad, and just what can we expect to see from this latest iteration from Apple that hopes to punch a hole into the home entertainment market? The new Apple TV is said to support 1080p resolution alongside a “streamlined new user interface.” It does sound as though it will get the job done, but make no mistake about it – this is not a basic iOS interface. We would highly recommend you own a HDTV that supports 1080p resolution in the first place if you want to get the new Apple TV for your home, otherwise the kind of eye candy that you were supposed to enjoy might just disappoint. The new Apple TV will retail for $99 a pop and is available from next week onwards. You can, however, place an order from today onwards. Enjoy the gallery of the new Apple TV after the jump.
Apple TV will require iTunes 10.5 or later, in addition to an 802.11g/n Wi-Fi network or Ethernet network, a broadband Internet connection. Second generation Apple TV users are able to install the new Apple TV user interface thanks to a free software update, while third generation Apple TV hardware is required to play 1080p video.
