iPad 3 rumored to feature 1GB of RAM

Prior to the iPhone 4S launch, many were speculating that it would be seeing a bump in RAM to 1GB much like the rest of its Android competition, but unfortunately the phone was launched with 512MB, which to be fair has been doing well enough to get the job done, but what about Apple’s upcoming iPad 3? Will we be seeing 512MB as well? Well according to Chronic of the Chronic Dev Team, it seems that the iPad 3 will be seeing 1GB of RAM instead.

This was apparently revealed about a month ago when BGR posted a screenshot of a debug report, and according to Chronic:

It’s been in plain sight since the beginning of February when BGR posted their exclusive photos of debug output from an iPad 3 development unit. The (full) last line says:

“vm_page_bootstrap: 244276 free pages and 8396 wired pages”

So, just do some simple math:

“244,276 (pages) x 4,096 bytes (size of a page) = 1,000,554,496 bytes = 1GB (rounded)”

What do you guys think? Possible? In an industry where quad-core processors and 1GB of RAM are becoming commonplace as far as our mobile devices are concerned, we guess it’s not a stretch of the imagination to think that Apple has decided it’s high time to upgrade. Either way we’ll take this with a grain of salt for now until the announcement, which is a little less than 6 hours away, so stay tuned!
