iOS 5.1 available today, Siri update for Japan rolling out in the next couple of weeks

With the launch of new hardware, it’s not surprising that new software follows, and with the new iPad officially launched, it looks like would-be buyers will not only be getting themselves a brand new, Retina display iOS device, but will also get some iOS treats as well in the form of the iOS 5.1 update, which will be available from today, and which also includes a Siri update (for iPhone 4S owners) with support for our friends in Japan and is expected to be rolled out over the next couple of weeks. For iCloud users, the service has also been updated to support movies, and movies purchased from the iTunes App Store can be re-downloaded in 1080p Full HD resolution, which we imagine you’ll want to view on the new iPad’s 2048×1536 Retina display.

Utilizing the Retina display, Apple has also introduced several iOS exclusive apps that will be taking advantage of the huge resolution. This includes productivity apps such as SketchBook Pro, and games like Sky Gambler, an action flight simulator, and Infinity Blade: Dungeons that will feature HDR graphics and tone-mapping. Additionally, older productivity apps such as iWork have been updated that will supposedly allow for “stunning” creations, along with Garage Band with “Smart Strings”, a Note editor and a new sharing feature as well. Videographers and editors will also be pleased to learn that iMovie has been updated, allowing users to do outlining and storyboarding all on the iPad, record it in 1080p Full HD and then play it back all from the same device.
