IC card sports touch sensor for added layer of security
DNP have come up with what could potentially be the next generation of IC cards that sports a touch sensor on its surface that will see action where online shopping is concerned. This particular card from NXP Semiconductors is capable of stashing away handwritten information from the touch sensor, ensuring that individual characters are not the only things to be stashed there, but the characteristics of the strokes will also be part of the security feature during the authentication process. This is made possible thanks to cold lamination technology that embeds electronic components in cards.
I guess the traditional combo of a physical card and a PIN number might just be ousted from its position in the future, assuming the inclusion of handwritten information into future IC cards become the norm. At the moment, NXP Semiconductors wants to see this card being tested in the market for feedback, as input received will be able to help shape the future development of such an IC card.
