The first technology will detect the potential victim’s voice through loudness and pitch which will help it determine if the speaker is under stress. The second technology used will use voice recognition to scan the words spoken by the con artist and counts the number of times commonly used words in cons come up during the conversation. This list is based on a compilation created by the National Police Academy, a school for senior police officers.
The technology will be tested with the National Police Academy and a bank in Japan using previously recorded phone scams, which is apparently a major social issue in Japan targeting the elderly with police estimating that about $110 million was stolen last year through scams like this.
