AU Optronics rumored to supply Apple with 7.85″ displays for the “iPad mini”

It seems that despite how Apple’s late co-founder Steve Jobs might have felt about 7” tablets, the rumors of such a device are still persisting, and this time around it seems that according to Chinese Economic Daily News manufacturer AU Optronics, has been pegged as one of the suppliers that will be providing Apple with their 7.85” displays for the rumored “iPad mini”. The company and LG Display are said to be producing the displays, with Apple excluding their rival Samsung from the deal.

This seems to be in line with earlier rumors of an iPad mini by Digitimes that suggested that Apple was getting ready to begin production of the 7.85” tablet in Q3 of 2012, which will also be seeing a price from $249 to $299, which while not as cheap as the Amazon Kindle Fire, should be affordable enough for those who want an iOS tablet. With Apple’s trademark secrecy when it comes to upcoming products, we guess we have no way of confirming this latest report, so we suggest you take it with a grain of salt for now.
