Times Square Valentine Heart glows in the month of love
Ah, February 14, or better known as Valentine’s Day, is the boon for many a florist and restaurant, although singles might wish that the day would end faster than normal as they see everyone else walking with a date, hand-in-hand and whispering sweet nothings into another person’s ear. Well, if you happen to be at Times Square in New York this year for Valentine’s Day, you might be interested in the 10-foot tall glowing sculpture which comes in the shape of a glowing heart, and it is not just static but “alive” – in a sense that it can interact with the flow of people, air, and touch.
Known as “BIG♥NYC” (how apt!), this sculpture will be on display from February 6 all the way to February 29, where it comprises 400 transparent, LED lit, acrylic tubes which will actually make up the cube that surrounds the suspended red heart. If you are curious enough to send your hands all over the sensor-equipped sculpture, the heart will glow brighter, while beating faster and faster as the transparent tubes refract lights from Times Square. This results in a cluster of lights that has formed around this pulsing heart. Whoever said that technology was cold?
