While the PlayStation Portable (PSP) may not be the most ideal device when it comes to reading comics, Sony gave users the option to download comics to read them on the portable console anyway. Well for those of you who have grown fond of the service, it’s almost time to bid it goodbye. According to reports online, Sony will be shutting down the PSP comic download service later this year. Once shutdown, the “Comic” tab will no longer be accessible from the PlayStation Store.
Sony also announced that it will stop adding new content to the store on March 15th. Those of you who have previously purchased comics with the service will be able to download all your comics throughout the end of the year. The Comic Reader app will also remain downloadable throughout the year. But once the comic download service is shut down at the end of September – time to kiss all those comics goodbye.
In the meantime if you’re redownloading all the comics you’ve purchased, Sony recommends that you back them up using Media Go. However, this isn’t the end of comics from Sony – the company is currently looking into offering comics and other digital book content through another outlet. Perhaps the Sony Reader Store? We’ll just have to wait and see. How many of you use the PSP to read comics?
