Sony Google TV now rooted by GTV Hacker

If you own a Sony Google TV device and you’ve been looking for a way to improve your experience with the set top box, you’re in luck. The folks over at GTV Hacker have managed to successfully root the device and release to the public “The GTVHacker Sony Recovery Downgrader & Rebooter.” In case you’re unfamiliar with rooting, it basically gives superuser permission access to folks on their Android devices. With it, they can access files they normally don’t have access to, and install custom kernels on them, in this case – the Sony Google TV device.

The GTVHacker Sony Recovery Downgrader & Rebooter introduces quite a handful of new features to the Sony Google TV: a modified flash plugin with random per box flash string for Content Provided Bypass – which basically means access to services like Hulu and other network TV content that is blocked on Google TV, a crippled update feature to prevent future automatic updates, read/write access to all partitions of the device, NTFS support and more.
