Sony to ditch Android for Vita OS on upcoming mobile devices?
Sony might be one of the biggest advocates for the Android operating system, with Google’s mobile operating system powering all of its recent smartphones and tablets. However, it looks like that could possibly change in the future. According to reports online, Sony’s soon-to-be President and CEO Kazuo Hirai, mentioned that the Vita OS, used in the PlayStation Vita, is not just for gaming and that it can be used in smartphones and tablets as well. But then, he concluded with the statement “that doesn’t mean that we’re applying it to smartphones and tablets at this point in time, but it’s been designed with expandability in mind.”
After all, Sony (back then when it was still making phones as Sony Ericsson) has previously mentioned that it wanted to become the world’s largest manufacturer of Android phones – so unless its plans have changed or are going to change, it’s unlikely the company will be ditching Android for its own operating system. Using Vita OS for its smartphones and tablets could help Sony break out from the rest of the options available on the market but it would have a long uphill battle when it comes to getting developers onboard and everybody’s favorite apps ported to the operating system. What do you think? Should Sony use the Vita OS for its own devices?
