Samsung Galaxy S3 to be 7mm thin, rolling out in May 2012?

Just earlier this morning, we talked about Eldar’s speculation surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S3, which will not be making its debut at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month, but it seems that he might be off base by a bit – as he touted an April release date which is contrary to Korean publication ETNews, where the latter states that the new superphone from Samsung will be released in May instead. Not only that, it will measure just 7mm in terms of thickness, breaking new ground considering that is nearly 1.5mm thinner compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S2. Does this mean we could be looking at a smartphone with a flexible display soon?

To achieve such a level of thickness which borders on the unbelievable, Samsung certainly had to pull something magical out of their engineering hat, using components which are said to be anywhere from 10% to 20% thinner than conventional parts – and that would include the printed circuit board (PCB), connector parts and chips. It will also most likely be the first quad-core smartphone from Samsung that boasts an 8-megapixel shooter at the back and a 2-megapixel camera in front, sporting LTE support. Do you think that Samsung should hold off the Galaxy S3 until sales figures of their Galaxy S2 peter off?
