Fujifilm X-Pro1 and lenses get priced early on Amazon [Updated]

Interchangeable lens cameras such as the Olympus PEN and Sony NEX series of cameras are starting to catch on with Fujifilm’s latest addition in the form of the X-Pro1 adding to that list. The camera was unveiled during CES, but unfortunately Fujifilm deigned to reveal just how much we could expect to fork out for the X-Pro1, but that might have changed thanks to what appears to be a slip-up from Amazon.

The camera’s pre-order page seems to have gone live and assuming Amazon did not get their pricing information wrong, if you were planning on getting your hands on the Fujifilm X-Pro1, you can expect to fork out a whopping $1,700 for the body itself! This would make the X-Pro1 one of the more expensive non-SLRs available, and with prime lenses such as the 18mm f2.0 and 35mm f1.4 expecting to go for $600 each, and with the 60mm f2.4 macro lens priced at $650, you could easily pay more than $2000 for the whole setup.

So how does Fujifilm justify the price? Well according to the company, the X-Pro1 reportedly sports a APS-C X-Trans CMOS sensor that supposedly will produce better-than-DSLR image quality that not only reduces moiré, but is said to be sharper overall. Since we don’t have the X-Pro1 on hand we can’t really speak for its quality or if Fujifilm’s claims are to be believed, but $1700 is asking for quite a bit, so perhaps this is one camera you should try out at the store first before spending your hard-earned money!

Update – It turns out that both Adorama and B&H have also put up the prices of the Fujifilm X-Pro1, perhaps it wasn’t a slip up after all! Either way it’s still pretty expensive. Thanks to our reader Nichols10 for the tip!
