According to Gene Munster, he had reportedly spoken to a “major TV component supplier” about Apple’s rumored plans for a television of their own. Based on what he was told by his sources, it seems that Apple has been going about contacting component suppliers “regarding various capabilities of their television display components.” If these rumors are to be believed, it would seem unlikely that Apple will be launching the iTV in 2012 which was what earlier rumors had suggested.
While rumors of an Apple television have persisted over the years, the recent Steve Jobs biography, coupled with recently discovered patents for advanced backlighting and a simplified universal remote control has lent credence to the rumor, or at the very least has suggested that Apple is investigating the possibilities of such a device with nothing set in stone yet. While it will be interesting to see what Apple can bring to the table in terms of a television set, we suggest that you take these rumors with a grain of salt for now.
