Android 5.0 Jelly Bean to launch in Q2 2012? [Rumor]

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has barely started rolling out to Android devices around the world, but now rumors of the next biggest iteration of Android have started to surface. The next update to Android is expected to bring it up to version 5.0 and based on the naming scheme that Google has favored thus far, it is likely that we will be seeing the “Jelly Bean” moniker. So when can we expect to see Android 5.0? Well according to Digitimes, Google may be launching the Android 5.0 Jelly Bean update in Q2 2012.

According to the website, the extra early launch of Android 5.0 is due to the adoption of Android 4.0 falling short of Google’s expectations, along with the impending release of Microsoft’s Windows 8 platform which is expected to target both the PC and tablet market. Based on Digitimes’ sources:

“Android 5.0 will be further optimized for tablet PCs, while Google will also integrate its Chrome system functions to push dual-operating system designs. Brand vendors can either choose to adopt only Android 5.0 or add Android 5.0 to Windows 8 devices with the ability to switch between the two OSes without the need to shut down the computer.”

Dual-booting both Android and Windows? Honestly it does sound a little far fetched, and it should be noted that Digitimes’ track record for these alleged leaks and rumors has been pretty spotty so far, so we suggest that you take this information with a grain of salt for now, at least until we can corroborate it.

In the mean time, do you guys think that Android 4.0 is facing poor adoption, or do you think that it’s too early to tell? Given how many manufacturers have announced their plans to update their devices to Android 4.0, it’s only a matter of time before the majority of devices receive the update which seems to suggest that this particular sentiment may have been premature.
