Xbox 360 is top selling 2011 console in the US

Microsoft’s executives must be smiling from ear to ear, where their Xbox 360 was top dog in terms of sales figures where current-generation console sales in the US are concerned, outselling the second-place console by over 2.7 million units. One of the main reasons why the Xbox 360 does so well is because of its library that was peppered by hit after hit this year, going once again to show that value lies in the software, making or breaking a deal no matter how good your hardware is. The Xbox 360 also captured 49% of consumer retail spending, raking in an industry-leading $6.7 billion in sales in the US for this year, more than $2.1 billion on consoles and $4.6 billion on games and accessories, according to the most recent NPD data.

Just to prove my earlier point, the Xbox 360 held seven of the top 10 console game titles including “Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3,” Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,” “Battlefield 3,” “Assassin’s Creed: Revelations,” “Just Dance 3,” “Kinect Sports Season Two” and “Dance Central 2”. Guess a healthy mixture of casual and serious games do show the demographic’s taste is extremely wide, and let us see what 2012 has in store.
