The PocketBook A7 Android e-reader/tablet could be eyeing the Kindle Fire’s spot

Looking for a tablet in the 7” variety that might be similar to what Amazon’s Kindle Fire has to offer? If you happen to be in the market for such a device, you might be interested in checking out PocketBook’s latest offering, the A7 e-reader/tablet that is the successor to the company’s 701 model, which while running on the Android platform features physical navigation buttons on the device reminiscent of an e-reader.

As far as the PocketBook A7’s specs are concerned, it will feature a 1GHz single-core processor with 512MB of RAM under the hood, 4GB of internal storage, a 7” 1024×600 display, a 2MP front-facing camera (no rear-facing camera unfortunately), a microSD card slot and will run on Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread. Unfortunately it appears that while it does feature Android as its choice of platform, support for Google Apps and the Android Market are reportedly missing from the device.

PocketBook has yet to release a date or pricing for the A7, but based on its somewhat average specs and small form factor, and especially if they hope to compete against Amazon’s Kindle Fire, we don’t expect the PocketBook A7 to cross the $200 mark, but we could be mistaken. If anything it could end up as an affordable Android tablet that will be a favorite amongst the modding community.
