Earlier today we reported on Panasonic’s new Lumix ZS20 compact camera, well if you thought that was all there is, you were wrong. Adding to their list of compact cameras, Panasonic also unveiled the TS4 and the TS20, both of which have been designed for rugged use, with the former (pictured above) aimed at users with more demanding needs, while the latter is being aimed at the more entry-level crowd who might appreciate some ruggedness from their compact cameras.
According to Panasonic, the TS4 is able to withstand water depths of up to 40 feet, drops of up to 6.6 feet, most dust and temperatures down to 14F. It will also feature an altimeter, a barometer log and like the ZS20, it too will come with a new GPS system for advanced geotagging. It will sport a 12.1MP CCD-based sensor, an internalized 4.6x (28-128mm) zoom lens and has the ability to record 1080i quality videos. For the more advanced user, the TS4 will also come with manual controls.
For those who might not need such a rugged camera, the TS20 might just do the trick. The TS20 will be able to withstand water depths of up to 16 feet, drops of 5 feet, dust resistance and will be able to withstand temperatures of 14F. It will also feature video recording quality of up to 720p HD. The TS20 is expected to be made available by the end of February for $180, while the TS4 will be available in March for $400.
