MegaUpload data safe for one more fortnight
I am not quite sure how much of a panic attack you received when you first heard of the troubles over at MegaUpload, and earlier today, we brought you news about data on MegaUpload will be deleted soon – so those who use MegaUpload as their cloud storage platform of choice might want to look elsewhere. Procrastinators, here is a small window of reprieve for you – it seems that managers at Carpathia Hosting and Cogent Communications, the services that MegaUpload uses to host its data, do have a heart, where they have agreed to preserve material there for a minimum of two weeks – this is what we heard from Ira Rothken, MegaUpload’s U.S. attorney.
Still, it is always far better to be prepared in advance and download all your files stashed there just in case someone in the powers-that-be position decides to make a U-turn. Currently, Rothken is negotiationing with the government in order to find a different outcome that would allow MegaUpload managers to offer a more permanent solution. That is one bane of the digital age – we do amass so much data in our lifetime, and keeping the ones we really need and want is equally as hard as physical items.
