An iPhone 4S without a camera? No, you did not wake up in a parallel universe, and neither did the folks at Apple go nuts with their design, but rather, the military in the city-state of Singapore has this niggling rule that prevents their personnel from owning smartphones with a camera (for obvious national security reasons, of course). Servicemen who own smartphones will need to show a certificate that their device has already been altered and tinkered with by one of the local carriers so that photos cannot be taken. To get the ball rolling, M1 of Singapore has already rolled out an iPhone 4S that has no camera.
Bear in mind that this is not an officially sanctioned Apple modification, as the carrier just performed some DIY magic and physically removed the camera, while raising the price to an even higher level with a voided warranty. Somewhat like purchasing lingerie, where you pay more for less material. Someone should come up with a blog to review these ‘blinded’ smartphones just for Singaporean servicemen…
