Emotiva unveils new airmotiv 4 speakers at $399

Interested in picking up a pair of new desktop speakers for your computer? If you happen to be in the market for such a product, you might be interested in checking out Emotiva’s airmotiv 4 speakers, which on first glance might seem like a normal set of speakers, but for the speaker enthusiast they might point out to you that the airmotiv 4 appears to be missing a dome tweeter that is commonplace in most speakers.

In place of the dome tweeter is a Heil air motion transformer, which instead of pushing air to make sound like most tweeters do,  “squeezes” air thanks to its pleated diaphragm. The Heil’s large radiating area also requires less movement which means that it has the ability to produce lower distortion compared to most dome tweeters. The airmotiv 4 sports a 4.5” woofer, two 25 watt amplifiers, RCA and XLR inputs, measures 9.4 x 6.1 x 7.3” and weighs a little over 10 pounds.

Now if all of this sounds good to you, you might be worried that a speaker with such specifications will command a pretty hefty price tag, but surprisingly Emotiva’s airmotiv 4 speakers will only set you back a pretty affordable $399.
