Dropcam HD webcam
[CES 2012] Dropcam is launching a new hardware called Dropcam HD, and we can say that it was about time! If you have not heard of Dropcam before, it is a very easy-to-setup web video surveillance camera. The Dropcam service not only lets you watch the cameras from a computer or a mobile device over the internet, but the architecture of the Dropcam service makes it so that you don’t need to setup your router and network to make it work. Finally, Dropcam is providing a digital video recording (DVR) feature that is completely based on the cloud. With it, it is possible to record to Dropcam servers for up to 30-days.Back to the new hardware: the new hardware features significant improvements like 720o H.264 video, night-vision with infra-red LEDs that turn on automatically, and two-way audio to keep tabs on a child, or to use as a fancy interphone. Because the resolution is much higher than the original Dropcam cameras, Dropcam has added a digital zoom feature that lets you magnify a sub-region of the image. Finally, Dropcam HD has a nicer design than its predecessor AND it costs less ($150 vs. $199). For sure, once could argue that the previous Dropcam was relatively expensive as more basic D-Link competitors can be found at $70. However, Dropcam HD makes the Dropcam offering really worth looking at.
