LED lamps are supposedly energy efficient to begin with, so why not take things even further by making LED street lamps self contained units? In order to do this, what SavWatt has done here was create a street lamp that would not only be powered by solar energy, but by wind energy as well. This would effectively kill the dependency of these lamps on the local power station, thus not only saving resources, but reducing the cost of electricity as well.
The SavWatt Eco-Pole appears to have been inspired by attempts at such a street lamp that can be found in both Poland and China, but it looks like SavWatt could be bringing that concept to the US. The Eco-Pole will make use of a 60W LED lamp with a lifespan of 50,000 hours. It will be powered by a 300W micro-wind turbine and 90W solar cells and will only require 250W of energy overall.
What do you guys think? Is this a street lamp you think our local government should start investing more into? You can head on down to SavWatt’s website to check out more photos of the Eco-Pole in action.
