According to Pleiades’ website, the Trumstand does not appear to use any sort of electronics to help amplify the sound, instead relying on the natural acoustics of the horn-like speaker. The sound emitted from the iPhone’s speakers are transmitted into the sound box (the base of the Trumstand) which reportedly are made of a thick alloy to minimize external vibrations. The sound in sound box is then carrier through the horn-like speaker and thus amplified thanks to natural acoustics.
It’s a pretty interesting concept but it will not come cheap as it will go for ¥150,800 (~$2,000) for the gold model, and ¥138,000 (~$1,800) for the silver model. For more information head on down to Pleiades’ website.
