We never thought that digital recorders could look so complicated or high-tech, but we guess we were wrong when we came across the Olympus LS-100 Linear PCM digitalrecorder. Featuring two 90-degree directional stereo condenser microphones, we’re guessing that Olympus is probably targeting recording professionals rather than your average user who may want to record their thoughts or poetry while on the go.
The two microphones on the LS-100 feature the ability to capture both lower-bass frequencies and louder sounds with “less clipping than before”, at least according to Olympus, and will support up to 140dBspl of sound pressure. With two XLR inputs that allow the connecting of guitars or other line-output sources via the quarter inch RCA jack, Olympus is referring to the LS-100 as the “musician’s toolbox”.
It will feature a tuner, a metronome and Lissajous measurement which basically tells you how far left/right you are in the recording, thus allowing you to center yourself. It will feature a 2” backlight LCD display with 4GB of internal memory on board, although that memory is expandable via SD (up to 2GB), SDHC (up to 32GB) or SDXC (up to 64GB) cards.
If you’re interested in picking up the Olympus LS-100 Linear PCM digital recorder, you will be able to order one for yourself from Olympus’ website from which you will also be able to obtain more information on the device.
