Nokia plans to sell Vertu?
It looks like Nokia has no more interest in creating luxury phones with exorbitant price tags. It’s been reported by the Financial Times that the Finnish mobile giant is now in the early stages of selling Vertu, its luxury subsidiary that creates classy and ridiculously overpriced cellphones for the rich and famous. No word on why Nokia wants to sell it off, but I guess it’s a lot harder to sell $16,000 phones as opposed to selling a hundred $200 phones.
We don’t know who Nokia will be selling Vertu to, but we’re pretty sure it’s going to attract the attention of luxury goods brands that have been eyeing for a way in to the mobile sector. Nothing has been officially confirmed at this point, but we’ll keep you posted when we find out more details. Any ideas on who you think will pick up Vertu from Nokia?
