New phishing scam targets Apple users
If you own an AppleID account, be sure to look out for a well-crafted phishing scam that’s been going over the past week. The phishing emails were reported to have been sent out on or around Christmas day, and attempts to fool people into giving away their AppleID billing information. The email carries a sender’s address of “appleid@id.apple.com” and informs recipients that their billing information records are out of date.
Users are then invited to click on a link to “http://store.apple.com/” but are instead redirected to a realistic-looking sign-in page. The email that is sent out to Apple customers is pretty realistic looking, featuring the use of the Apple logo as well as a template that reminiscent of an Apple email. Talk about crafty! The right thing to do in this situation would be to just ignore such emails, and inform your friends and family about the scheme before they get tricked by it as well.
