The Acer Iconia dual-screen Windows 7 laptop was crowned the winner of the Last Gadget Standing award at CES 2011, and now it looks like another company wants to claim the throne with a similar device. NajmTek has announced that it will be showing off a dual-screen notebook at CES 2012 as well. Called the “U-book” (Universal Notebook), it is designed to be a desktop replacement machine as opposed to a netbook/laptop/tablet device.
Now, what makes the U-book special is going to be its keyboard touchscreen. According to NajmTek, the keyboard will be extremely customizable, with users getting the option to create custom layouts of their own if the provided ones aren’t to their liking. Imagine having a keyboard that features different layouts depending on what you’re doing – sounds like a pretty interesting idea to me. But I wonder how NajmTek will handle touchscreen keyboard issues like lack of tactile response and the inability to rest your fingers on the keys. Stay tuned for more details at CES 2012.
