Thanks to MIPS Technologies, you can now get your hands on what they’re claiming to be the world’s first Ice Cream Sandwich tablet, and the good news is that it will not be breaking the bank! It will retail for $99 but because it is being shipped from China via Ainol Electronics Co., the folks down at Android Central reportedly paid an additional $66 for shipping.
So what can we expect from a $100 tablet? For starters the MIPS tablet will run on a 1GHz MIPS-based XBurst CPU with a Vivante GC860 GPU, a 7” display with WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI and microSD support, with Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 on board. Not the most impressive of specs but according to MIPS, Google’s Andy Rubin was quoted as saying:
“I’m thrilled to see the entrance of MIPS-Based Android 4.0 tablets into the market. Low cost, high performance tablets are a big win for mobile consumers and a strong illustration of how Android’s openness drives innovation and competition for the benefit of consumers around the world.”
