Meizu MX unveiled

It seems that the successor to the first self-proclaimed iPhone killer has finally arrived, where it is known as the Meizu MX. Why MX? There is a very special reason for such a naming convention, since it will borrow the first two letters from the Chinese characters of the word “dream,” or “Meng Xiang”. I guess you can pretty much guess where we’re heading – the Meizu MX is going to be marketed as a dream phone for the masses, and on paper, the hardware specifications seem to hold up pretty well. We are talking about a dual-core 1.4GHz processor running proceedings from within, coupled with 1GB RAM, an 8-megapixel back-illuminated camera and LED flash, a gyroscope as well as a bunch of other sensors.

The design of the Meizu MX will be extremely clean, intuitive and minimalistic, sporting a 4″, high resolution (292 PPI) AVS screen. The operating system is Meizu’s *Flyme OS, which is in fact a customized Android 2.3.5 with Android Market and Meizu’s own app store. It will arrive in China next New Year at 2,999 CNY – where the equivalent in the dollar would be $473 thereabouts. Interestingly, the CEO of Meizu has promised that Android 4.0 would come “soon” — which means a few months.
