Lady Gaga Facebook and Twitter accounts hacked, fans phished

It has been reported that Lady Gaga, one of the most popular pop stars of this generation, had her Facebook and Twitter account hacked. The hackers then used her account to send messages to all her fans – inviting them to submit their details to win free iPad 2 tablets. Here’s what one of the Tweets said:

“Monsters, I’m giving away FREE ipad2’s to each one of you in the spirit of the holidays :)”

The message included a link to a webpage where users were greeted with a message saying: “So for the next 72 hours we will be hosting a massive giveaway to all the Mother Monster fans. Sign up and receive your special Lady Gaga edition iPad in time for the Holidays! For contest rules and registration visit the link below.”

Most fans who had no clue Lady Gaga’s accounts were hacked (apparently over 100,000 of them were scammed) gave away their personal details in the phishing website. No word on whether the personal details have been used in malicious ways, but this goes to show that sometimes you can’t even trust official pages. Though it goes without saying – if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
